What Is Alternative or Holistic Veterinary Care?
In veterinary medicine, the word alternative refers to treatment modalities and therapies that are considered non-traditional. In other words, alternative treatments include methods outside of medications and surgery.
Holistic treatments and therapies include those that support and/or encourage the body’s natural ability to heal itself and be healthy.

Class IV Laser Therapy
Class IV laser therapy, also called cold laser therapy, is a highly effective treatment modality that is used in both human and veterinary medicine. This science-backed treatment uses cold laser light to trigger a healing response at the cellular level. It has been shown to increase circulation while reducing pain and inflammation.
Cold laser therapy has a variety of treatment applications including musculoskeletal conditions, arthritis, chronic pain, and post-surgical recovery.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to address a variety of conditions. In veterinary medicine, we most often use acupuncture to address issues related to chronic pain and the body’s inflammatory response such as arthritis and allergies.
How We Use Alternative Treatments
Most often, alternative treatments such as laser therapy and acupuncture are provided to pets as a part of a larger treatment or wellness plan that includes a variety of traditional treatments as well. Alternative therapies might be recommended for a short period of time to help address acute problems in pets. Other times, we might recommend these treatments as a part of an ongoing wellness plan designed to manage chronic conditions and chronic pain.
Every pet is different, and the way each pet’s body responds to treatment is different. For this reason, we work closely with pets and their owners to help determine the appropriate schedule and duration of holistic therapies.
